What is the Seniors' Housing Forum?
The Seniors Association of Greater Edmonton (Sage), in partnership with key community stakeholders, is presenting this one-day Seniors' Housing Forum for the general public on Saturday, September 24th, free of charge! The goal of the Forum is to educate participants about the range of housing options and community resources available for older adults and to guide individuals in planning appropriate future housing for themselves and/or significant others.
This is the fifth time the Seniors' Housing Forum has been held in Edmonton, with participant attendance in past years ranging between 300-400 and an average of 40 exhibitors in attendance.

A complimentary boxed lunch will be available for participants at the venue. Coffee and tea will also be served in the morning and at lunch.

10:00am-11:00am - Welcome, 1st Group Session in Large Auditorium
"Housing Options"
This session will focus on seniors' housing options such as home living, supportive living and facility living environments available to older adults. The session will utilize the available resources on seniors' housing to help address the questions and concerns seniors face when choosing the optimal environment in which to live.
11:15am-12:00pm - Concurrent Sessions A, B, C
Option A. "Health Services" in Large Auditorium
A representative from Alberta Health Services will speak to the spectrum of publicly funded health services in all types of housing. Alberta Continuing Care Association (ACCA) will review private-pay home care options that complement those available through Alberta Health Services.
Option B. "Caregiver & Family Dynamics" in Small Auditorium
This session outlines supports available to families and caregivers as seniors transition from one housing environment to another. Strategies for handling family dynamics and stress related to moving will also be discussed.
Option C. "Staying Well in Your Home" in Gym
This session will focus on home adaptations to help seniors live comfortably and safely in their own homes. The session will examine universal and accessible design concepts in order to accomodate the changing ability and mobility needs of individuals as they age. Grants available to low-income seniors for such home adaptations will also be discussed.

This session provides information on strategies for planning finances to support housing choices. Guidance will also be offered on accessing income supports and other financial benefits.
2:00pm-2:45pm 2nd Group Session in Large Auditorium
"Community Supports for Seniors"
This session will give an overview of some practical resources allowing seniors to age-in-place and be supported in the community. It will describe city-wide services offered by senior-serving organizations that provide services designed to help seniors live safely and independently.
